Canada and Internet Freedom: A Call to Action
eQualitie and its partners convene digital rights and technology organizations in Ottawa for a showcase of Canadian-led innovation in digital sovereignty, security, censorship resistance, and rights-based technology. This event aims to increase awareness among government stakeholders and spark conversations about Canada’s strategic role in shaping future global technology policy.
12:30 – May 21st, Global Centre for Pluralism
Resilience & Sovereignty
The global landscape for internet freedom is deteriorating rapidly. From digital authoritarianism to the suppression of online dissent, the space for free, open, and secure digital communications is under threat.
Canada must step up. As a democratic country with a strong track record on human rights, digital innovation, and multilateral engagement, and as the host of the 2025 G7, Canada is uniquely positioned to lead a new global coalition to safeguard and promote internet freedom.
By investing in Canadian internet freedom focused organizations, we improve the overall resilience of the Canadian technology landscape and strengthening the country from foreign interference and over-reliance.
