Job Description

eQualitie is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to help the organization manage grants and regulatory compliance. Working within the operations team, you will help steer a not-for-profit organization and its dedicated staff to defend human rights in the digital domain. You will contribute to building an ethical and inclusive working environment. You will drive organizational compliance for contractual agreements between eQualitie and its Canadian and US donors. This includes legal, financial, human resource and internal policy requirements. The role also assumes responsibility for coordinating
timely and accurate reporting to project funders.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manage administrative, legal and financial activities for contractual grant agreements and scheduled audits
  • Liaise with management and funders on project implementation and ensure accurate project reporting
  • Ensure financial systems and internal controls are in compliance with corporate and funder requirements
  • Collaborate with bookkeeper and accountant on project ledgers to ensure reporting reconciliations
  • Prepare financial statements and supporting documentation for accountants, donors, and external auditors
  • Develop and help implement financial, administrative, and human resources policies, procedures and practices
  • Support the organization in project development proposals
Essential skills for the position (in order of importance)
  • Detail: responsibilities call for a good deal of precision, so you have a keen eye for all parts of the whole and take care with the fine print as much as the big picture
  • Focus: new tasks come along quickly, and you are ready to pick them up and push them through as they roll in
  • Priorities: as you juggle tasks, you keep an eye on deadlines and time lines and can determine how to order tasks
  • Balance: you feel a sense of accomplishment when the numbers add up
  • Communication: policies are only as useful as they are well explained, so you are adept at expressing expectations and liaising with the team as questions and requests come in. High level of English Proficiency
  • Independence: you problem-solve your way through issues and request support as necessary
Skills that will be considered favourably towards your application
  • Knowledge and experience of accounting and book-keeping practices for non-profit org administration
  • Knowledge of the non-profit grant procurement and reporting processes
  • A shared spirit of working in a team driven by defending and promoting human rights in the digital domain
  • Knowledge of donors supporting Internet freedom projects
  • Willingness and ability to travel, work remotely, and collaborate with others in a remote-first company
  • Spanish and/or other languages a plus
  • Surprise skills that would be useful in this multi-faceted role
